Awakenings

Finally decided to wake this blog up again. I'm a dreadful blogger. Hopefully I will be able to keep going a bit better now when my new project has started--not because I will spend my research time blogging, but simply because working a lot has a tendency to make me completely obsessed by my computer, and the blog will be a great excuse to stay online when I should really read a novel or take a bath instead. Or just go to bed.

Det har blivit lite tufft att klaga pa barn och foraldrar--och i synnerhet, surprise, surprise, morsor--i Sverige pa sistone. 'Damn if you do, damn if you don't' tycks vara det nya (eller kanske inte sa nya) mottot for barnhatare och deras supportrar.

Folders Better than Poststructuralism

Just got the tip on how to sort the blogs in folders, so that I can give them more than one label each. That sounds so much more practical than silly quasi-intellectual babbeling. Just need to master the skills involved first...

I had planned to write a passionate manifesto for children's liberation inspired by Alfie Kohn today, by the way, but a bad cold and hours and hours of arts and crafts (including paint everywhere and all ending in tears) with little T have tired me out. So children's liberation will unfortunately have to wait until I don't have so much parenting to do.

Queer is Queer

As those of you who have found this little blog corner so far would have noticed, I keep adding new links to blogs as often as I can, not least since it's a good way of keeping track for my research.

I must admit, though, that I'm finding it quite difficult to label them under headings. How do you label a bilingual queer feminist blog, for example? Is it a Swedish feminist blog, or an LGBTQ blog? Or something else? Unfortunately, despite these concerns of mine, my strong super-ego tells me there have to be labels, so I'm keeping them for the time being.

My justification for any confusion will simply have to be that both 'Queer' and 'Feminism' (and possibly other future labels/headings) are 'floating signifiers' and that their meaning simply can't be determined once and for all. So, this is only a temporary fixing of meaning, which we can all critique and deconstruct etc. (And, of course my superego told me that I had to justify it somehow. Sorry about that.)

New Term!

Meeting my new undergraduates for this year today. I'm really excited! :-)
